First career weekly honor
ROSEMONT, Ill. - Thanks to another four-point series, Minnesota forward Oliver Moore earned the first weekly award of his career as he was chosen as the Big Ten Conference Second Star of the Week.
Â
Moore continued his string of impressive play as he carried the offense for the Golden Gophers during a road split at league-leading Michigan State last weekend. The freshman totaled three goals and an assist for four points and extended his point streak to seven games, tying for the longest streak of the year by a Minnesota skater.
Â
The product of Mounds View, Minn., opened the weekend with a goal Friday night, his first B1G goal as a Gopher, that gave the visitors a 2-0 lead. In the series final Saturday, he recorded his third three-point effort and sixth outing with multiple points this season. Moore scored in the second and third periods to go with an assist during the road win, registering a goal in back-to-back games for the first time in his college hockey career.
Â
Moore now has 13 points during his seven-game point streak, including four multi-point outings, and pushed his team-leading plus-minus rating to plus-17. He has tallied 25 total points, ranking fourth on the team, while his 19 assists rank sixth among NCAA rookies.
Â
Seven different players representing the Maroon and Gold now have totaled 10 weekly B1G awards during the 2023-24 campaign, the most of any team within the league: Oliver Moore (Jan. 30), Rhett Pitlick (Jan. 23, Dec. 5, Nov. 7), Sam Rinzel (Jan. 16), Jimmy Snuggerud (Jan. 10, Oct. 17), Bryce Brodzinski (Nov. 28), Brody Lamb (Nov. 14), and Justen Close (Oct. 24).
