The Gophers earn their 10th win of the season
ST. PAUL - A Golden Gophers' goal in the 45th minute would be the difference in Minnesota's (10-3-3, 4-3-2 B1G) win over Maryland (4-9-4, 1-7-1 B1G) on Thursday evening at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.
Graduate midfielder Ally Childers scored the lone goal for Minnesota, marking the first of her career donning the Maroon and Gold. Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Martin grabbed her fifth shutout of the season, collecting one save.
The first half stayed even between the Gophers and Terrapins, with most of the action happening in the midfield. Both teams stayed on the ball and found chances.
With 39 seconds left in the first half, sophomore Taylor Heimerl broke through Maryland's backline on the right side. The sophomore passed the ball to senior Khyah Harper who found Childers in the 18-yard box. Childers placed the ball to the left side of the net to take the lead.
Despite no scoring in the second half, the Gophers kept up the pressure and out shot the Terrapins 13-3.
Minnesota is back in action this Sunday, as they face the Indiana Hoosiers at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium. Kick off is set for 12 p.m. CT and will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
