MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota men's and women's cross country teams conclude the 2024 regular season with Rocky's Run on Friday, October 25, with both the men's and women's competing in a 5K event that starts at Les Bolstad Golf Course in Falcon, Heights, Minn.

ABOUT ROCKY'S RUN
Members of the public are invited to join the Gophers for an open 5k race on Friday. Registration is open on race-day with the entry fee to participate being $20 per person. The competition will begin at 5 p.m. and will be just one race.

Rocky's Run was founded in 1981 to honor former Gopher runner Rochelle "Rocky" Racette, who died in a car accident that Fall at the age of 22. While at the University of Minnesota, Racette was an All-American in track & field and cross country and champion of the Big Ten and Drake Relays 5,000-meter titles. The annual race is staged by the many members of the running community who knew and loved her. Racette's legacy lives on through the memory of those who knew her, and through Rocky's Run and the scholarship for which it raises money.

LAST TIME OUT: WISCONSIN PRE-NATIONALS
The University of Minnesota cross country program raced to 13th-place and 14th-place finishes at the Wisconsin NCAA Pre-Nationals meet in Madison, Wis., at the Zimmer Championship Course on October 19. Ali Weimer was Minnesota's top runner, finishing in 11th in the women's 6K, while Emmet Anderson overcame an early team-fall to finish 22nd overall in his 8K competition.

Minnesota was 13th overall on the women's side with 417 points, finishing ahead of the likes of No. 14 Furman (420 points), No. 23 Syracuse (457 points), No. 27 Lipscomb, No. 30 Michigan State (490 points), No. 24 Boston College (534 points), No. 29 Arkansas (568 points), No. 15 Tennessee (579 points) and No. 22 Ole Miss (804 points).

Just weeks after an incredible run at the Loyola Lakefront Invitational, Weimer impressively got faster in Madison, clocking a lifetime best 6K time of 19:38.5 to finish 11th overall. In a field that included each of the top five teams in the nation, Weimer finished ahead of the No. 1 runners of the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 teams in the country. Just weeks before the Big Ten Championships Weimer was also the top Big Ten finisher at the event, in a field that had five total teams from the conference. Weimer's time also improves her No. 2 6K time in program history, dropping her personal best time by eight seconds from 19:46.8.

MOVIN' ON UP
The Gopher women moved up from No. 25 a week ago to No. 22 after the team's performance at the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals meet last Saturday. Led by junior Ali Weimer, the Gophers have reached their highest team ranking since 2021. Regionally the Minnesota women sit at No. 2 in the Midwest as the postseason swiftly approaches.
