Perich Named the Shaun Alexander Freshman Player of the Week

True freshman was also named to the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll
The Maxwell Award Committee announced today that Minnesota defensive back Koi Perich is the Shaun Alexander Freshman Player of the Week.
Perich was also named to the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll. This award is presented by Texas Roadhouse and is presented to the to Most Versatile Player in Major College Football
The Esko, Minn., native played a pivotal role in Minnesota 24-17 win against No. 11 USC. The true freshman recorded a career-high six tackles, had his first career forced fumble, and secured the victory with his second career interception on USC's final dive.
In six games this season, Perich has eight tackles, two interceptions, two pass breakups and one forced fumble. He has also stepped into the role of returning punts and kickoffs. Perich has returned six punts for 135 yards and is averaging 22.5 yards per return. He has returned seven kickoffs for 124 yards.Â

Each week during the regular season, a panel of college football experts selects players for the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll based on performance. A national selection committee comprised of 18 sports journalists and former NFL stars votes for the Hornung Award finalists and the winner, with fan voting powered by Texas Roadhouse comprising the 19th vote.
