McEnelly Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

MINNEAPOLIS – After a standout performance at the Mountaineer Invite, Minnesota's Max McEnelly has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Thursday.

It was pure domination by McEnelly on his way to the 184-pound crown as the redshirt freshman won all three matches by tech fall and beat his opponents by a combined score of 61-14. He was not taken down on the weekend as all 14 points surrendered were via escape by McEnelly's opponents.

McEnelly opened with a 19-4 victory in just 3:57 over Appalachian State's Dalton Battle then followed with a 22-5 win in 5:12 against North Carolina's Jake Dailey.

In the finals, McEnelly took down App State's Tomas Brooker by a final of 20-5.

He is now undefeated in his 18 matches as a collegiate wrestler dating to last season. He's won 13 of those 18 matches by bonus points, including 11 tech fall victories in his brief career.

McEnelly is the first Gopher to take home Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors as the award was established prior to the 2024-25 season.
