• The Golden Gophers finish the week hosting Bethune-Cookman, Sunday at 2 p.m. After a two-game trip to Orlando, the Gophers are back to Williams Arena confines. It marks the second-straight year the Gophers will play Bethune-Cookman. Minnesota opened the 2023-24 campaign against Cats, winning 80-60 on Nov. 6, 2023. All time, the Gophers are 5-0 against Bethune-Cookman, dating back to 1987.
• Minnesota is playing its fourth game of the week Sunday when Bethune-Cookman comes to town. The Gophers then host Michigan State on Wednesday, Dec. 4 to open Big Ten play. This stretch is five games in nine days for the Gophers.Â
• Minnesota is facing its first and only SWAC team this season (Southwestern Athletic Conference) in the game against Bethune-Cookman. The Gophers hold a 12-0 record all time against SWAC teams. Minnesota went 2-0 against SWAC teams last year after wins against Bethune-Cookman and Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Â
• Minnesota is looking to return to the win column after a pair of losses at the ESPN Events Invitational, Nov. 28-29 in Orlando, Fla. Lu'Cye Patterson was named to the All-Tournament Team when he scored a team-best 14 and 12 points in the games vs. Wichita State and Wake Forest. In the tournament, Patterson averaged 13 points, 10 assists and a team-high 13 field goals. Femi Odukale averaged 10 points, nine assists and six steals, while Isaac Asuma averaged eight points, three steals and three assists. Parker Fox led the team in rebounding when he averaged 6 per game.Â
• Lu'Cye Patterson has had three-straight games where he has recorded double-digit games. Patterson had a Minnesota-best 19 against Central Michigan and followed with 14 and 12 in the Orlando games. He has four games in double-digit points as a Gopher, 43 in his two-year span at Charlotte and nine double-digit point games at Missouri State.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
• Bethune-Cookman enters the game with a 2-5 record. The Cats went 1-1 in the Cancun Challenge earlier this week. BC-U defeated North Dakota, 79-67 on Nov. 26, while it lost to Gardner-Webb, 79-64, on Nov. 27. Bethune-Cookman also garnered a win over South Carolina State, 75-62, on Nov. 16 for its first win of the season. Bethune-Cookman is coaches by former NBA All-Star Reggie Theus, who also serves the role as athletic director.
• Slated to finish eighth in the SWAC this year,  the Cats have three individuals averaging double-digit scoring. Brayon Freeman averages a team-best 15.9 points, followed by Trey Thomas with 11.7 and a team-best 13 threes. Reggie Ward Jr., averages 11 points and a team-high 7.4 rebounds.Â
• As a team, Bethune Cookman is averaging 66.1 points and allow 75.4. The Cats are shooting 40 percent from the field and 29.7 from beyond the arc. They also average 33.3 rebounds.Â
ON THE DOCKET
• Minnesota is back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 4 when it hosts opens Big Ten play against Michigan State. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m., on Big Ten Network.
