Nabwe Recognized as Big Ten's Field Athlete of the Week

Nabwe won the shot put and weight throw at the M City Classic on Dec. 6.
MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota women's track and field redshirt sophomore Anthonett Nabwe has been named the Big Ten's Field Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced on Wednesday afternoon. Nabwe, the reigning Big Ten weight throw champion, was victorious in both the shot put and weight throw at Minnesota's indoor season-opening event, the M City Classic.
Nabwe throw of 22.45m (73-8) at the M City Classic sits at the No. 1 position in the nation in the weight throw by nearly a full meter. The throw went down as an M City Classic meet record. In the shot put Nabwe's throw of 15.95m (52-4) has an early hold on the No. 6 spot nationally and is second among Big Ten throwers through the first week of the indoor campaign.
Minnesota's schedule will not resume until January 10, at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational. The Maroon and Gold will return home to host the Jack Johnson Classic on January 24-25 at the University Fieldhouse.
