Gophers Swimming and Diving Returns to Big Ten Action

MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota Golden Gophers men's and women's swimming and diving teams are back in action this weekend as they travel to West Lafayette, Ind. for a battle of Big Ten teams.
The men's team, who received votes in the latest CSCAA poll, will compete against the host, Purdue, as well as Northwestern. The No. 22-ranked women's squad will take on Iowa in addition to Purdue and Northwestern.
Friday's action is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. The opening evening will feature the 200 medley relay, 1000 free, 200 free, 100 back, 100 breast, 200 fly, 50 free, 200 IM, 800 free relay, and men's and women's 1-meter and 3-meter diving.
Saturday's schedule begins at 10 a.m. CT with the 200 free relay, 400 IM, 100 free, 200 back, 100 fly, 500 free, 200 breast, 400 free relay, and men's and women's platform diving.

The Gopher women enter the weekend with a 7-1 dual meet record this year (1-1 B1G), while the men are 5-2 (0-1 B1G).
Senior Megan Van Bekom swam NCAA 'B' cuts in a team-best three events this season, along with posting the top time in the 500 free (4:42.63), 200 fly (1:54.78), 400 IM (4:04.36) and 200 IM (2:00.15).
Van Berkom is one of five different Gopher women to hold the top times or scores in multiple events this season. Joining her are junior Hannah Cornish (50 free, 100 free; both 'B' cuts, 100 breast), senior Paula Rodriguez Rivero (100 and 200 back; both 'B' cuts), freshman Katie McCarthy (1000 free, 1650 free; 'B' cut) and sophomore Vivi Del Angel (1M, 3M, platform diving; all qualifying marks).
Freshman Anja Kaljevic (200 free), sophomore Ava Gustafson (200 breast; 'B' cut) and freshman Morgan Thomas (100 fly; 'B' cut) also own top times on the team.
The men's squad is led by junior Bar Soloveychik, who holds the top times in four events and has NCAA 'B' cuts in three. His 'B' cuts came in the 200 free (1:35.14), 500 free (4:18.37) and 1650 free (15:00.56) with his other top time coming in the 1000 free (9:04.03).
Freshman Davide Harabagiu has had a stellar rookie season, breaking the school record in the 100 fly with a time of 45.94. He has also collected a 'B' cut in the 50 free (19.76) and has the top time in the 100 free (43.66).
Senior Kaiser Neverman has posted 'B' cuts in both the 100 fly (46.56), 200 fly (1:44.40) and 200 IM (1:45.97).
Fellow seniors William Christenson (400 IM; 'B' cut) and Casey Stowe (100 back), along with junior Joe Rudd (100 and 200 breast), sophomore Drew Bennett (platform diving), and freshmen Ryan Slonac (200 back; 'B' cut) and YuTong Wang (1M and 3M diving) round out the list of Gophers holding top times/scores.
