Gophers Post Five Program Top 10 Performances at Windy City Invite

2/10/2024 4:13:00 PM | Women's Track & Field

MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota Golden Gophers saw five top 10 program performances go down in Chicago Ill., at the Gately Center on Friday and Saturday. Along the way the Maroon and Gold picked up three victories in Diarra Sow (Triple Jump), Brooke Jaworski (800m) and Maja Maunsbach (60m hurdles).

Sow's performance in the triple jump went down as Minnesota's top performance as far as in the national rankings. Sow posted her lifetime best 13.15m (43-1 3/4) jump on her fifth attempt, earning the top spot among collegiate competitors. Sow's mark improves her on No. 2 spot on the program's top 10 and pushes her to No. 13 in the NCAA this season. Brooke Moore joined Sow by posting her own top 10 program jump. Moore reached 12.67m (41-7) on her fifth attempt after posting another lifetime best of 12.50m on her first attempt. Moore's mark puts her at No. 6 in school history and helped her finish fourth overall and now is 40th in the NCAA this year.

Another top 10 program mark was Minnesota's 4x400m relay team. The quartet of Jayla Campbell, Janielle Josephs, Dyandra Gray and Abigail Schaaffe combined to clock a 3:37.01 to place second at the Windy City Invite. The group now sits at sixth all-time at Minnesota, and pushes the Maroon and Gold to the No. 19 spot in the country this season.

Minnesota's other two program top 10 times were Victory Godah and Dyandra Gray who both narrowly improved on their current standing in the record books. Godah is fifth in the 60m and improved her lifetime best time in the event from 7.35 to 7.33 to finish second overall. Gray's 8.44 in the 60m hurdles helped her finish third overall in Chicago and kept her at the No. 7 time in school history.

The other two victories for Minnesota were from Maja Maunsbach (60m hurdles) and Brooke Jaworski (800m). For Jaworski, the reigning Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week, her 2:04.68 claimed the top spot in the 800m. Maunsbach's 8.27 in the 60m hurdles final helped her claim the crown after posting an 8.25 preliminary time.

The weekend of Feb. 16-18 will see Minnesota host the Snowshoe Open while also sending competitors to the Gene Glader Classic at Bethel University.
