Nabwe Erupts for Top Five National Throw at Snowshoe Open

The meet concludes the indoor regular season for the Maroon and Gold.
MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota Golden Gophers saw Annie Nabwe make a big splash in the women's weight throw to end the 2024 indoor regular season at the Snowshoe Open at the University Fieldhouse in Minneapolis, Minn., on Friday.
Nabwe's weight throw performance was filled with three personal bests with the redshirt freshman's 23.02m (75-6 1/4) coming on her fourth attempt of the competition. Nabwe entered the meet with a lifetime best of 21.94m (71-11 3/4) and eclipsed that on her first attempt (22.01m | 72-2 1/2) and her second attempt (73-1 1/4) before her lifetime best, and winning mark, on the fourth attempt. Nabwe's mark puts her at No. 3 all-time at the University of Minnesota and No. 4 in the nation this season. Nabwe is also the No. 1 ranked freshman in the event.
Additionally, Minnesota's No. 3 ranked weight throw crew swept the top three spots at the Snowshoe Open weight throw with Shelby Frank (22.82m | 74-10 1/2) and Hadley Streit (19.75m | 64-9 3/4). For Streit her 19.75m is a lifetime best for the freshman and ranks her No. 55 in the nation.
The 'U' had a stellar day in the field on Friday with Nyalaam Jok, Lexy Berger and Autumn Glover all picking up victories. Nyalaam Jok cleared 1.78m (5-10) in the high jump while Berger posted a season-best vault of 4.17m (13-8 1/4) to win the pole vault. Berger edged out true freshman teammate Sofia Condon who posted a lifetime best mark of 4.02m (13-2 1/4). Glover was victorious in the long jump with a leap of 5.44m (17-10 1/4).
Minnesota had a number of unattached athletes compete on Friday with the group picking up 11 victories throughout the day. Of those 11 victories it was Charles Godfred who stood out in the long jump with a mark of 7.65m (25-1 1/4), which is an indoor personal best for the true freshman from Nigeria. Isaiah Schafer was the winner in the shot put with a lifetime best throw of 19.52m (64-0 1/2) and also posted a personal best of 20.63m (67-8 1/4) in the weight throw to finish third overall. On the women's side it was Grace Weber and Grace Mignone who picked up nice victories for the Maroon and Gold. Weber was victorious in the 600m in a time of 1:35.63 while Mignone was the winner in the 3000m in a time of 10:08.16.
After the conclusion of the indoor regular season the Minnesota Golden Gophers shift their focus to the 2024 Big Ten Indoor Championships in Geneva, Ohio, from Feb. 23-24.
