Sharpe Sets Personal Best Monday at Puerto Rico Classic

MINNEAPOLIS - Sophomore Cormac Sharpe carded a career best performance in the second round Monday at the Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande, P.R.
After an even-par first round, Sharpe surged up the individual leaderboard with six birdies and a double eagle on the par-5 fifth hole for a career-best 65. Sharpe's effort ties him for the second lowest score on the team this season. His impressive second round puts himself in a tie for 15th-place after the first 36 holes with a score of 7-under par.
The Maroon and Gold sit in fifth in the team standings after their first 36 holes with a combined score of 21-under par (281-274).
Georgia stands atop the team leaderboard with a score of 33-under par, while Purdue's Nels Surtani holds the top individual spot at 12-under par.
Notable:
Senior Ben Warian tallied five birdies in his second 18 holes en route to a 4-under 68. Warian finds himself alone in the third individual spot after the first two rounds with a score of 10-under par. He is just two shots off the lead entering the final round.
Graduate senior Brock Winter carded eight birdies in his second round to secure a four-under 68. Winter stands in a tie for 35th after the first 36 holes at 4-under.
Junior Bennett Swavely was the second Gopher to have at least an eagle on the par-5 fifth hole. Swavley currently sits in a tie for 75th at 3-over par. Graduate senior Jacob Pedersen sits one shot behind Swavely at 4-over par and in a tie for 78th.
