Gophers Conclude First Tournament of Spring Season

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota men's golf team wrapped its final round of the Puerto Rico Classic Tuesday in Rio Grande, P.R.
The Maroon and Gold finished in 10th place with a score of 19-under par (281-274-291–846) over the three-day tournament.
Georgia took home the first-place spot with a score of 42-under par (275-268-279–822), while Virginia's Bryan Lee and host-Purdue's Nels Surtani tied for the top individual spot at 15-under par.
Notable:
Senior Ben Warian led the Gophers with an impressive first 36 holes, shooting 66 and 68 in the first two rounds, respectively. Warian finished in a three-way tie for 13th-place with a score of 10-under par after an even-par 72 Tuesday.
Sophomore Cormac Sharpe ended his tournament with two eagles, including a double-eagle on the par-five fifth in round two. The native of Scotland concluded his tournament in a tie for 30th with a score of 6-under par (72-65-73).
Graduate senior Brock Winter notched 12 birdies over the 54-hole tournament as he finished in a tie for 53rd with a score of 2-under par (72-68-74).
Graduate senior Jacob Pedersen finished in a tie for 79th with a score of 4-over par, while junior Bennett Swavely was one shot back of Pedersen in a tie for 81st.
Looking Ahead:
The Gophers will travel to Bluffton, S.C., to compete in the Colleton River Collegiate, March 4-5. The two-day, 54-hole tournament will take place at the Colleton River Club.
