Gophers Finish Two Rounds of the Westbrook Invitational

PEORIA, Ariz. -- The University of Minnesota women's golf team completed rounds 1 and 2 today at the Westbrook Invitational. The team faced a tough day of competition and improved by 12 strokes between sessions.
The U currently sits in a tie for 13th place with a score of 292-280-572 (-4).
Sophomore Isabella McCauley leads the Gophers in a tie for 17th place after shooting 5-under-par in the second round.
Kansas finished the first two rounds on top of the leaderboard with a day-one total of 546 (-30).

"We unfortunately got behind early and spent all day trying to make ground," said Head Coach Rhyll Brinsmead. "This is definitely not the play we expected in this field, on this golf course, but it is what it is and we have tomorrow to go out and prove what Gopher golf is all about."
Notable:
McCauley was locked in all day shooting a 72 (E) in round one and a 67 (-5) in round two for a five-under-par 139. This 36-hole score ties for sixth-best in school history.
Graduate Grace Curran improved by three strokes and moved 17 spots up the leaderboard between rounds totaling a 73-70-143 (-1). Curran is in a tie for 39th place.
Emma Carpenter also improved by three strokes between sessions with a first-round score of 74 (+2) and a second-round score of 71 (-1). Carpenter's day one score has her in a tie for 54th place.
Senior Hailey Loh played consistently across rounds with a day one score of 73-73-146 (+2). She is in a tie for 59th after day one of play.
Graduate Megan Furtney improved by four strokes between sessions to finish the day with a score of 76-72-148 (+4). Furtney is tied for 66th place.
Freshman Sara Tomaszewski is competing as an individual and posted a career-best round in her time as a Gopher posting a 70 (-2) in the first round. She ends the day with a score of 70-71-141 (-3) and sits in a tie for 29th place.
