Maroon & Gold Finish Eighth at Westbrook Invitational

PEORIA, Ariz. -- The University of Minnesota women's golf team wrapped up play at the Westbrook Invitational today in Peoria, Ariz. The team scored under par for the second round in a row, shooting a 274 (-14)Ā today. The Gophers finished the 14-team event in eighth place with a 18-under-par (846) across three rounds. The GophersĀ were led by graduate Grace Curran in round three who posted a 66 (-6).Ā
The Gophers played against a tough field of competition with Kansas winning the competition with a 43-under-par (821).Ā

"We showed today what this team is all about, to be at the bottom of the field and fight back with a 14-under-par is amazing," said head coach Rhyll Brinsmead. "I'm so proud of them and the fight they showed. This team is elite!"Ā
Notable:
The team total of 846 (-18) is the second-lowest 54-hole score in school history. The Golden Gophers third round score of 274 (-14) is the second-lowest 18-hole score in school history.Ā
Curran posted a career best round during round three shooting a 6-under-par (66). She tallied a bogey free round while adding six birdies to lead the Gophers individually. Curran finished tied for 18th with a tournament score of 73-70-66-209 (-7). This is her best career tournament score as a Golden Gopher.
Sophomore Isabella McCauley completed round three four-under-par for a tournament score of 72-67-73-212 (-4). She ends the event in a tie for 32nd place.Ā
Graduate Emma Carpenter finished the third round of play with a three-under-par (69) and ended the tournament tied for 40th place. She posts a three-round score of two-under-par (74-71-69-214).
Senior Hailey Loh also finished in a tie for 40th place after posting a four-under-par (68) in round three. She completes the tournament with a three-round score of 73-73-68-214 (-2).Ā
Graduate Megan Furtney posted a one-under-par (71) in round three. She completed the tournament tied for 62nd place with a tournamentĀ score of 76-72-71-219 (+3).Ā
Competing as an individual, freshman Sara Tomaszewski shot a two-under-par (70) in round three. She finished the event in a tie for 29th with a three-round score of 70-71-70-211 (-5).

The team is back in action for The Show at Spanish Trail in Las Vegas Nev. from March 4-5.
