Soloveychik Breaks School Record as 800 Free Relay Leadoff Swimmer

2/28/2024 6:18:00 PM | Men's Swimming & Diving

MINNEAPOLIS - The 2024 Men's Big Ten Swimming and Diving Championships began on Wednesday night with the 200 medley and 800 freestyle relays.

The Gophers scored points in both events to kick off the meet.

The Minnesota 200 medley relay team consisted of Casey Stowe, Kaiser Neverman, Davide Harabagiu and Connor Groya. The team finished sixth with a time of 1:24.38, their best mark of the year.

Bar Soloveychik, Neverman, Alberto Hernandez and Tyler Hansen represented the 'U' on the 800 freestyle relay team. The foursome swam a season-best time of 6:10.49 to place fifth, cutting nearly six seconds from their previous best.

The cut was largely in part due to junior Bar Soloveychik's 200 split time of 1:33.37. The time breaks the school record of 1:33.56, which was previously set by him at the 2023 NCAA Championships.

At the completion of day one, the 'U' sits in sixth place with 98 points. Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin make up the top three.

Thursday's schedule includes preliminary and finals for the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free and 1-meter diving. The evening session will also include the 400 medley relay.
