MINNEAPOLIS - Junior Bar Soloveychik, senior Kaiser Neverman and freshman YuTong Wang each took home medals in their events on Thursday night at the Big Ten Championships in Columbus, Ohio.
Soloveychik and Neverman also each set new school records in the 500 free and 200 IM, respectively.
For the second day in a row, Soloveychik marked his name in the record books. After breaking the record in the 200 free yesterday as a relay leadoff, he tied his own school record in the 500 free prelim with a time of 4:12.76. The time did not hold up in the finals, as the Kiryat Motzkin, Israel native swam a 4:11.49 to place second.
After breaking his own school record in the 200 IM during the prelims, Neverman repeated the feat in the finals. He swam a 1:42.75 in the A final, taking third place overall. Neverman now owns the top three 200 IM times in school history.
Both Soloveychik and Neverman's times cleared the NCAA 'B' cut mark.
Freshman YuTong Wang continued his impressive freshman year by winning the 1-meter diving competition. Scoring a 340.50 in the preliminary round, Wang secured a spot in the A final. The Beijing, China native took it up a notch in the finals, scoring a 408.25, the first time a Gopher has surpassed the 400-point mark in the 1-meter dive this season. The score is just 12.1 points off of the school record.
In addition to Soloveychik and Neverman, five other Gophers set new personal records for the day.
Tyler Hansen swam to a new best in the 500 free prelims with a time of 4:28.11. In the 200 IM, Jack Ballard and Ryan Slonac had career swims, with Ballard clocking 1:47.07 and Slonac touching the wall in 1:46.64. The 50 free saw two new Gopher bests as Casey Stowe finished in 19.98 and Connor Groya finished in 19.93.
The 400 medley relay team of Stowe, Joe Rudd, Davide Harabagiu and Neverman finished on the podium for the 'U'. The team cut nearly five seconds off of their previous season-best time, finishing in 3:05.34, which was good for fourth place.
With their performances today, Minnesota moves to fifth in the team standings. Indiana still leads the pack, while Michigan, Ohio State and Wisconsin sit in front of the Gophers.
Friday's timeline consists of the 100 fly, 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, 3-meter diving and the 200 free relay in the evening.
