Minnesota Tennis to Host South Dakota, St. Thomas on Saturday

MINNEAPOLIS - On Saturday, the University of Minnesota tennis program will host its third-straight double header of the 2024 spring season, matching up against South Dakota (3-3) and St. Thomas (3-1). The Gophers will face South Dakota at 12:00 p.m. (CT) and then St. Thomas at 4:00 p.m. (CT) at Baseline Tennis Center.
On Friday, Jan. 26, Minnesota hosted North Dakota and Creighton, winning both matches 6-1. The Gophers have a 4-0 record going into the matches on Feb. 10.
The Competition
Minnesota is 6-0 all-time against South Dakota. The teams first met in 2016 and have played in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022, and 2023. The Gophers last meeting with the Coyotes ended with a 4-3 Minnesota win on Feb. 4, 2023.
Minnesota will face St. Thomas for the third time since the Tommies moved to the Division I level. The Gophers lead the series 2-0, with the last matchup ending in a 4-2 Maroon and Gold victory on Feb. 12, 2023. Minnesota head coach Lois Arterberry previously held the same position at St. Thomas for two seasons, and on Saturday will face the program for the first time in a dual match.
Match Format
Play will begin with three doubles matches, followed by six singles matches. Doubles will be played as one set to six, with the first team to earn two doubles wins earning one team point. Each singles match will be worth one team point.
Gopher Participants
Six University of Minnesota student-athletes are set to participate in both singles and doubles: sophomores Sofia Pizzoni, Aiva Schmitz, Sofia Pinto, and Anali Kocevar, and freshmen Emma Belluomini and Mia Liepert are all to play on Saturday.

Traffic & Parking Advisory
Numerous events are occurring on Saturday, Feb. 10 on the University of Minnesota campus, including Men's & Women's Swimming, Tennis, Women's Hockey, Men's Hockey, and Gymnastics. All fans are encouraged to arrive early and allocate additional time for arriving on campus. Individuals attending Saturday's tennis matches are encouraged to park in the 4th Street ramp. Parking is $10 at this location. Please note that this facility only accepts credit cards upon entry and spaces cannot be guaranteed.
Alumni Day
Saturday marks the Minnesota tennis program's Alumni Day. Prior to the match vs. St. Thomas, former Gopher tennis coaches and players will be honored in an on-court ceremony.

The Gophers will be on the road for the first time this season, heading to Boise, Idaho to face Oregon on Feb. 17 and Boise State on Feb. 18.
