Vivi Del Angel Dives to National Champion Title on Platform

She is Minnesota’s first-ever woman to win the event
ATHENS, Ga. - Minnesota sophomore Vivi Del Angel dove to National Champion status on Saturday night at Jack Bauerle Pool.
The Veracruz, Mexico native opened the day with a score of 308.80 in the platform diving prelims, putting her in second place heading into the evening's finals session.
Del Angel put on a show in the finals, scoring 327.90 in five dives to take the crown. The next closest competitor was over 23 points behind Del Angel in total score.
With the victory, Del Angel becomes the first Gopher woman to ever earn the title of National Champion on the platform.
Three Minnesota swimmers also competed on the final day of action in Athens.
Senior Megan Van Berkom finished off her three-event meet with the 200 fly. She clocked a 1:55.57 to finish 24th.
Junior Eliot Kennedy swam to a new personal best in the 1650 free in the afternoon, finishing in 16:10.13. Freshman Katie McCarthy joined Kennedy in the 1650 free, touching the wall in 16:18.09.
Overall, the Minnesota women placed 20th as a team at the 2024 NCAA National Championships. With that place, the 'U' has now finished in the top 25 for 18 straight years.
