Gophers Fall to No. 37 Denver on Sunday

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota tennis program drops to a 7-4 record on Sunday after a narrow 3-4 loss to No. 37 Denver on Sunday.
Denver put the first point on the board after winning the doubles round. Minnesota's No. 3 pair Mia Liepert and Emma Belluomini started strong defeating Denver's Alice Otis and Claudia Martinez 6-0. The Pioneers finished strong and clinched the point after defeating No. 2 Zeyneb Sarioglan and Anali Kocevar 3-6 and No. 1 Sofia Pinto and Sofia Pizzoni 3-6.
The Gophers battled in the singles round with three of six matches going to a third set. Minnesota opened the round with a win from No. 1 Mia Liepert 7-5, 6-2. The Pioneers clinched the victory with three straight wins from No. 5 Alice Otis, No. 3 Caroline Driscoll, and No. 6 Claudia Martinez. The Gophers added points to the board with wins from No. 2 Anali Kocevar and No. 4 Emma Belluomini.
