Minnesota Comes Up Short in 5-3 Loss to Indiana

Gophers will face Indiana again tomorrow

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The University of Minnesota softball team fell to the Indiana Hoosiers, 5-3 on Friday evening.

Senior Bri Enter (12-6) got the ball to start for Minnesota (21-16,7-3) and took the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Gophers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Minnesota got on the board thanks to junior Taylor Krapf's RBI double with one out.

The Gophers lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the third trailing 2-1. Minnesota pushed across a run on junior Nani Valencia's RBI double, which evened the score at 2-2.

Indiana broke that tie and grabbed a 5-2 lead moving into the seventh, when Minnesota narrowed the gap to 5-3. The Gophers scored a run on sophomore Jess Oakland's one-out solo home run off junior Brianna Copeland. The ballgame ended with that seventh inning rally falling short. 
 

GAME NOTES

» Minnesota's highest scoring inning was the seventh, when it pushed one run across.
» Minnesota pitchers faced 30 Indiana hitters in the game, allowing six ground balls and five fly balls while striking out four.
» The Golden Gophers drew four walks from Indiana pitching.
» Oakland led the Golden Gophers at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI.
» Indiana was led offensively by sophomore Avery Parker, who went 1-for-3 with a home run and four RBI.
» Copeland led the Hoosiers pitching staff, throwing seven innings of three-run ball.
