Mezzenga Collects 3 Hits in Minnesota's Loss to Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Minnesota Golden Gophers got three hits out of junior Ike Mezzenga in a 10-3 loss to the Michigan Wolverines Sunday.
Freshman Nick Argento (0-1) got the ball to start for Minnesota (14-16, 3-6) and took the loss. Senior Justin Thorsteinson came out of the bullpen and to throw four solid innings, giving up one run on four hits, with three walks and two strikeouts.
In addition to his three hits, Mezzenga had a home run and an RBI to lead the Gophers on offense. Junior Brady Counsell continued his strong weekend, going 2-for-5 with a home run and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 7-0, the Golden Gophers put runs on the board in the sixth inning with back-to-back solo shots from Mezzenga and Fitzgerald. It marks the third time this season the 'U' has hit back-to-back home runs.
The Minnesota deficit grew to 10-2 before Counsell scorched his seventh home run of the year to make it 10-3, which is where it would remain.

» Nick Argento started his first Big Ten game of his career on Sunday.
» The Gophers hit back-to-back homers for the third time this season.
UP NEXT
The Minnesota baseball team is scheduled to host two mid-week games this week at Siebert Field against North Dakota State on Tuesday and South Dakota State on Wednesday. The Gophers return home next weekend to face the Indiana Hoosiers in a three-game series.
