Warian, Gophers Have Historic First Day Of High Meadows Intercollegiate

MINNEAPOLIS - Senior Ben Warian leads the University of Minnesota after a historic first 36 holes Monday at the High Meadows Intercollegiate at Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania, Ohio.
The Gophers hold the top spot after the first 36 holes, their first 36-hole lead this season, with a score of 20-under par. With their performance through the first two rounds, the Maroon and Gold tied the program's 36-hole scoring record of 548 (275-273).
Notable:
After a bogey-free first round, and nine birdies in his second round, Warian holds the top individual spot at 14-under par. He's seven shots ahead of the field. Warian's performance set a program scoring record for 36 holes at 128 (65-63), breaking Angus Flanagan's record of 132 set back in 2019 at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate. After tying his lowest 18-hole score as a Gopher with an opening-round 65, Warian set a personal best in the very next round with an 8-under 63.
Junior Bennett Swavely finished his first 36 holes at 3-under par and sits in a tie for 10th place at 139 (71-68).
Graduate senior Jacob Pedersen nabbed seven birdies in his first 36 holes. Pedersen finished the day at even par and is tied for 18th (68-74-142).
Junior Eduard Galdos ended his day just one shot back of Pedersen at 1-over par and in a tie for 21st (75-68-143). Sophomore Jack Wetzel is one shot behind Galdos after the first 36 holes, tied for 26th (71-73-144).
Sophomore Cormac Sharpe finished the day at 6-over par and tied for 43rd (71-77-148), while fellow sophomore Mason Roloff is in a tie for 60th with a score of 12-over par (79-75-154).
