Mya Hooten Set to Compete at Nationals on Vault

The senior won both the Big Ten and NCAA Regional Championship on the event
FORT WORTH, Texas -- Gophers senior Mya Hooten is getting set to compete for a national championship on vault at the NCAA Gymnastics Championships this week at Dickies Arena. She'll compete as an individual with the No. 5 Utah Utes, who will go on vault during their third rotation. The Utes compete in session II, which begins at 8 p.m. CT on ESPN2 on Thursday, April 18. In session II there will also be top-ranked Oklahoma, No. 4 Florida, and No. 6 Alabama. The first semifinal at 2 p.m. on Thursday features No. 2 LSU, No. 3 California, No. 7 Arkansas, and No. 8 Stanford. The top-two teams from each semifinal will advance to the NCAA Championship final on Saturday, Apr. 20. The competition for the NCAA title will begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

TELEVISION AND LIVE SCORING INFO
- The two semifinal competitions on Thursday will be aired on ESPN2, while Saturday's NCAA final will be televised on ABC. John Roethlesberger and Aly Raisman will serve as the talent, and will be joined by Taylor Davis as the reporter. Along with the main broadcast for the NCAA Championships, ESPN will also provide individual apparatus streams on ESPN+ for both the semifinals and championship. Sam Peszek and Bridget Sloan will commentate the vault and bars streams, with Kennedy Baker and Anastasia Webb covering bars and floor.

HOOTEN HAVING BANNER SENIOR SEASON
- A senior from Woodbury, Minn., Hooten is now an 11-time All-American after the latest honors from the WCGA. She's a four-time WCGA First Team All-American on floor (2021-24), a First Team All-American on vault (2024) and a two-time Second Team All-American on vault (2022, 2023). Hooten earned two NCAA Championships First Team All-America honors on floor (2021, 2022) and two NCAA Championships Second Team accolades on vault (2021, 2022).
- Hooten took home three Big Ten titles in the same year for the first time in her career. She tied for the Big Ten floor (9.950), uneven bars (9.925) and vault (9.975) championships. She also took home the Fayetteville Regional vault title, her first ever regional title, with a 9.975 on the event.
- Hooten was named to the All-Big Ten First Team this season, her fourth consecutive All-B1G accolade (third first team honor).
- In 2024, Hooten has posted three perfect 10's on floor (vs. EMU, Jan. 13; vs. Michigan, Feb. 10); (Senior Day, March 17). She's done so nine times in her career. Also this season, she's earned Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week five times (11 times in her career), and has won 19 event titles (nine floor, seven vault, three uneven bars). She made SportCenter's top-10 plays for her floor performance on Jan. 13 vs. Eastern Michigan. She ranks first in the Big Ten and second in the country on floor this season.
- On vault, Mya has gone 9.900-or-better seven times in 14 meets in 2024. She's gone 9.950-or-higher four times, including two at 9.975.
- On the floor, Hooten was ranked No. 2 in the country for most of the season. She went 9.900-or-better 10 times in 14 meets, with three perfect 10's and two 9.975s.
- An AAI Award nominee, Hooten made the Big Ten All-Championships Team for the fourth consecutive season after winning Big Ten Championships on the floor (9.950), uneven bars (9.925) and vault (9.975). It was her third Big Ten floor title, second vault title and first uneven bars title.
- Mya Hooten will be competing at the NCAA Gymnastics Championships for the third time in her career in 2024, but first time as an individual. She earned NCAA Championships All-America honors on both floor (first team in 2021, 2022) and vault (second team in 2021, 2022) in both seasons. She or Minnesota did not qualify for nationals in 2023.
- Hooten scored a 9.950 on the floor and a 9.900 on vault in 2022 at nationals. In 2021, she went 9.950 on floor and 9.875 on vault.
- The last Gopher to qualify as an individual was Lexy Ramler in 2019. She earned NCAA First Team All-America honors on vault, bars, beam and all-around. She was the second Gopher ever to earn four All-America honors in a single year at nationals, but the first ever to be a four-time first team selection. In 2022, she was a three-time First Team All-American in the all-around, bars and beam.
- Lindsay Mable earned four individual All-America honors in 2016, including three first team accolades (all-around, bars and floor). She was a second team honoree on the balance beam.
- Ramler (12) and Mable (8) hold the most NCAA All-America honors in program history. Hooten (4) currently ranks fourth behind Ona Loper (5, 2018-22).
- The only national champion in Gophers history was Marie Roethlisberger, who took home the uneven bars title in 1990 (9.875). Roethlisberger was a four-time NCAA First Team All-American from 1987-90. Hooten can pass her four All-America nods with a great score on vault this weekend.

2024 SEASON RECAP
- The Gophers finished with a No. 12 final ranking according to Road to Nationals, the highest ranking of any Big Ten team. The Gophers were picked to finish fifth in the Big Ten Preseason Poll behind Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Iowa.
- The 'U' finished second at the 2024 Big Ten Championships with a score of 197.500, falling to Michigan State by just .100. It was the second-highest finish at the conference championships under Jenny Hansen.
- Minnesota advanced to the Regional Finals for the third time in the last four seasons in 2024, one of just three Big Ten teams to do so. Their 197.400 score on Saturday in Fayetteville, Ark., placed them fourth in the region behind No. 2 LSU (198.250), No. 7 Arkansas (197.825) and No. 10 Kentucky (197.475).
- Minnesota finished with a 20-11 (6-3 Big Ten) final record, their most wins under Jenny Hansen in her 10-year tenure. The Gophers were also slotted as the No. 18 team in the country according to the WCGA Preseason Poll and finished six spots ahead of that.
- Four Gophers earned All-Big Ten honors this season, including the fourth for Mya Hooten (First Team) and second for Gianna Gerdes (First Team). Lauren Pearl and Ella Sirjord both made the second team for their first career All-B1G honors.
