Minnesota Falls in 5-2 match to No. 58 Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, MD - The University of Minnesota tennis program fell 5-2 to No. 58 Maryland on the road in the Gophers' penultimate match of the regular season. The Maroon and Gold drop to a 4-6 conference record, with five of Minnesota's six conference losses coming against top 60-ranked opponents. The Gophers are 11-11 overall on the season.
Key Match Moments
Maryland clinched the doubles point to open the match. The Gophers got up early when No. 3 pair Emma Belluomini and Zeyneb Sarioglan took down Dya Challa and Aida Eissa 6-1. The Terrapins then tied it up at the No. 1 spot in a tight 6-4 match against Mia Liepert and Sofia Pinto. Maryland's Selma Cadar and Kallista Liu clinched the overall round in a 6-3 match against Anali Kocevar and Aiva Schmitz at the No. 2 spot.
While the Gophers notched a couple points, the Terrapins clinched the overall match in singles. The round kicked off with No. 4 Emma Belluomini falling to Maria Budin 6-1, 6-2. After winning in the No. 3 spot to extend their lead, Maryland secured victory on the day when Sofia Pinto was defeated by Diya Challa 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 5 match. No. 2 Anali Kocevar put Minnesota on the board with an impressive 6-3, 6-2 win over Minorka Miranda. The Terrapins again added to their lead with a win at No. 1, before the Gophers ended the day with a Zeyneb Sarioglan 7(7)-6(3), 6-4 victory at No. 6. Maryland came out on top 5-2 in the overall match.
