Gophers Tied for 10th After Opening Round of Big Ten Championship

HAVRE DE GRACE, Mary. -- The University of Minnesota women's golf team began post-season play at the Big Ten Championship today. The Gophers finished tied for 10th shooting a 301 (+13). Sophomore Isabella McCauley posted a 74 (+2) to lead the Gophers on day one.
Michigan State leads the tournament after day one posting shooting a 279 (-9).
Notable:
McCauley notched 14 pars and one birdie on her way to shooting a two-over-par (74). She finished the day tied for 25th.
Graduate Megan Furtney sits tied for 33rd place after adding 11 pars and two birdies to her scorecard. She sits one shot behind McCauley shooting a 75 (+3).
Graduate Grace Curran finished her day with 10 pars and two birdies. The graduate's four-over-par (76) has her tied for 44th
Senior Hailey Loh sits alongside teammate Curran in a tie for 44th place. She rolled home 12 pars and one birdie, shooting 76 (+4).
Sophomore Junrui Chi carded two birdies and 10 pars in round one. Her score of 77 (+5) has her tied for 52nd place.
Graduate Emma Carpenter penciled a 79 (+7) and sits tied for 67th place after round one.

"We weren't as sharp as we needed to be today," said head coach Rhyll Brinsmead. "We're so much better than these scores reflect. At this point we've got to play for ourselves and enjoy the experience."
Up Next:
Round two of the Big Ten Championship will begin tomorrow, Saturday, Apr. 20. Carpenter will tee off first for the Gophers at 8:45 a.m. CT with nine-minute increments between players.
