Shelby Frank, Erin Reidy Take Home Event Titles Friday at Drake

Frank won the discus while Reidy won the 1500 meter
DES MOINES, Iowa – The Golden Gophers track and field program took home two event titles Friday on day two of the Drake Relays.
The competition was initially delayed due to severe weather, but action picked up just after noon local time. On the women's side, The Gophers 4x1600 meter team of Emma Atkinson, Ali Weimer, Elsa Bergman, Brianne Brewster took fourth with a time of 19:51.54. Erin Reidy was the 1500 meter champ after taking took home the crown at the Drake Relays with a time of 4:16.53, missing her PR by just .02. It was her second 1500 meter title of the week after she won at the Gary Wilson Invitational on Wednesday.
For the field events, Shelby Frank was the Drake Relays discus champ. Her top throw was 58.34 meters, marking her fourth discus title of the outdoor season. Anthonett Nabwe placed fourth with a top distance of 15.72 meters in the women's shot put.
For the men, freshman Tony Nelson took fourth in the shot put at the Drake Relays this afternoon. Nelson's distance was 16.95 meters, the second-best mark of his career.
On Thursday night, Kostas Zaltos finished second in the hammer throw. He beat several Olympians and world class throwers with a distance of 73.83 meters.
Minnesota continues its outdoor season tomorrow in the final day of Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. The Maroon and Gold also have student-athletes traveling to Arizona for the Desert Heat Classic in Tucson, Ariz. Several Gophers will compete at Rider/Bolstorff Invite at Macalester College.
