Nebraska moves onto the semifinal game
IOWA CITY, Iowa - The University of Minnesota softball team fell to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, 11-2, in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal on Thursday.
Senior Jacie Hambrick (6-10) got the ball to start for Minnesota (28-25) and took the loss.
Offensively, the Golden Gophers were led by Oakland, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a home run and two RBI. Senior Morgan DeBord furnished a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-1 with a double and a walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Gophers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Oakland put Minnesota on the board with a leadoff home run off senior Harness.
The Cornhuskers then rallied to score seven runs and take a 7-1 lead before the Golden Gophers got back on the board in the fifth. DeBord came across to score the lone run of the inning for Minnesota, which brought the score to 7-2 in favor of the Cornhuskers. The ballgame ended with that fifth inning rally falling short.
