COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Gophers junior outside Mckenna Wucherer has been selected as one of 19 athletes for the 2024 Women's Collegiate National Team.
Last year, she was a member of the 2023 Women's U21 NORCECA Pan American Cup Team. In February of 2024, she participated in the 2024 USA Volleyball Women's National Team Open Program tryouts. The WNT Open Program was used for consideration for selection to both the U.S. Women's National Team and the U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team.
Wucherer earned her second consecutive AVCA All-North Region Honorable Mention in 2023 after leading the team with 3.24 kills per set (career-high). Wucherer also posted career-bests in digs (1.78), assists (0.28) and aces (0.08) per set while leading Minnesota with 22 10+ kill matches.
She was named MVP of the Big Ten/Big 12 Challenge on Aug. 26 after going for 30 kills, 11 digs and two aces on over .450 hitting in wins over TCU and No. 15 Baylor. She was also named to the Diet Coke Classic All-Tournament Team on Sept. 16. Wucherer posted four double doubles on the season, including a 21-kill, 10-dig match in a five set win over No. 6 Oregon on Sept. 8.
The Women's Collegiate National Team will train June 30-July 6 in Anaheim, Calif., alongside the U.S. Olympic Women's Volleyball Team.
Setters on the team are Kate Lang, Mia Tuaniga and Molly Wilson. Liberos are Lauren Briseño, Kate Georgiades and Allison Jacobs.
The outside hitters are Aliyah Carter, Claire Little, Ava Martin, Emmi Sellman and Mckenna Wucherer. The opposites are Jordan Iliff, Logan Lednicky and Megan Wilson.
The middle blockers are Desiree Becker, Lydia Martyn, Ifenna Cos-Okpalla, Anna Dodson and Phekran Kong.
Chris McGown of Gold Medal Squared will serve as the team's head coach.
"Getting the chance to work with our staff and athletes of the Women's Collegiate National Team is an absolute honor for me, and I'm excited to be back in the USA gym," McGown said. "To think that the work we do could be a part of someone's Olympic journey is really inspiring, and I know our staff will bring our best every day. I'm so proud of the work these athletes have put in to get themselves to this point, and we're really looking forward to helping them become even better."
