Summer Schmit Qualifies for 2024 Paralympics in Paris

MINNEAPOLIS – University of Minnesota women's swim team junior Summer Schmit earned a spot on the U.S Paralympic Team for a second time.
The Gopher junior swimmer earned a spot on the 2024 U.S Paralympic Team on June 30th, after an impressive performance in her home pool.
Schmit was a member of the U.S Paralympic team that competed in Tokyo in 2020. Schmit competed in the 200 IM where she placed fifth, sixth in the 100m fly, and seventh in the 400m free.
During her first two seasons as a Gopher she earned numerous awards and honors. This past season at the Minnesota Invite Schmit broke the S9 Para American record in the 100 meter breaststroke with a time of 1:14.48. As a freshman Schmit was named the team's hardest worker and also earned an Outstanding Student-Athlete Award (GPA 3.50+). This past season Schmit was recognized as a 2024 Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
During the 2022 World Championships Schmit earned bronze in the 400m free, and fourth in the 200m IM. Schmit also competed in the 2019 Parapan Am Games where she earned silver in 200 IM and bronze in the 100m breast.
Joining Schmit in Paris is Natalie Sims, a pro who has been training with the Gophers this year.
The 2024 Paralympics run from August 28 to September 8.
