MINNEAPOLIS – For the first time in his career, Bar Soloveychik is heading to the Olympic Games.

The Minnesota rising senior was chosen to compete for his home country of Israel at the 2024 Olympics in Paris as part of the 4x200 freestyle relay. Soloveychik becomes the second Gopher male ever to swim for Israel at the Olympics, joining Yoav Meiri in 2000.

The announcement comes after the completion of the Israel Olympic Trials where Soloveychik took home three gold medals by winning the freestyle events in 200M (1:47.28), 400M (3:47.32) and 800M (7:56.90). All three times were school long-course records, two of which he already owned, while his performance in the 400M also broke his own Israeli national record.

A native of Kiryat Motzkin, Israel, Soloveychik's selection marks the third straight Olympics to feature a male Gopher swimmer. David Plummer was a gold medalist on the 4x100 medley relay team and a bronze medalist in the 100 backstroke for the United States in 2016, while Bowe Becker also won gold in the 4x100 medley relay for the U.S. in 2020. Additionally, James Freeman represented Botswana in 2020.

Soloveychik is coming off a junior campaign that saw him become an All-American by finishing seventh in the 1650 free and an honorable mention All-American after placing ninth in the 500 free. He was also named Second Team All-Big Ten, Third Team CSC Academic All-American and Academic All-Big Ten.

He holds school records in the 200 Free (1:33.41), 500 Free (4:11.33), 1000 free (8:52.95), 1650 free (14:41.40) and 800 free relay (6:16.25), as well as the 200M free, 400M free and 800M free.

The 2024 Olympics run from July 26 to August 11 with Soloveychik's event scheduled to take place on July 30 at the Paris La Défense Arena.
