Men’s Swimming and Diving Welcomes 10 Newcomers for 2024-25 Season

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota men's swimming and diving program announced on Friday the addition of 10 new student-athletes for the 2024-25 season. The latest Gopher class will feature nine swimmers and one diver.

"Overall, this is one of our strongest classes in recent years," said head swimming coach Michael Joyce. "We have not just added depth in each area needed to succeed, but we've also added individuals who will immediately impact our team's performances on the biggest stage: the NCAA and Big Ten Championship Meets. Our staff is really looking forward to all ten of these men arriving to campus soon as we continue on our path of improvement year after year."

The 2024-25 season will also see the program return three seniors for their 5th year: Kaiser Neverman, Casey Stowe, and Matt McDonald.

Luke Brennan
Robbinsville, NJ - Robbinsville High School

Coach Joyce says: "Luke is one of the top endurance freestylers in the class. Luke showed sheer determination this entire Olympic Year to improve and thus his progression from his recruitment until now has been huge. We're very eager to welcome Luke to Minneapolis as we know he will help our program on a daily basis through his training and racing abilities alike."

Daniel Eichel
Haifa, Israel - Hof Hasharon High School

Coach Joyce says: "Daniel will come in and make us better quickly. Daniel's strengths are his turns and underwater kicking ability. These are key components to being a successful SCY swimmer within the NCAA and B1G-10. Daniel was an A finalist in the 200 freestyle this May at an Israeli Olympic Qualifying Meet. Events and competitions like that will give him the necessary experiences to be successful in our college system."

Jayden Edmonson
Rochester, MN - John Marshall High School

Coach Joyce says: "Jayden is a bit of a sleeper in the class of 2024. Throughout his senior year of high school he continuously improved and even made a final at the West Winter Junior Meet in the 200y free. He comes with high praise from his coaches in Rochester and we look forward to welcoming his versatility to our team."

Braylon Goodno
Muskego, WI - Options Charter Schools: Indiana

Assistant diving coach Yu Zhou says: "Braylon has beautiful diving form. When we watched him dive throughout the recruiting process, it was like watching art in motion. Braylon is a very kind and hardworking kid who fits our team dynamic perfectly. We're excited to see what he will do here in Minnesota!"

Jaden Heinlein
Palatine, IL - WM Fremd High School

Coach Joyce says: "Jaden is a true team player. Jaden is willing to swim what's needed, when it's needed for the betterment of the team. His background in team sports like Water Polo has given him an amazing outlook on team culture. Jaden is very versatile and will give us great depth in both the backstroke and individual medley events."

Jacob Johnson
Springfield, PA - Springfield High School

Coach Joyce says: "Jacob is the best butterfly swimmer in the class of 2024 and is ranked by SwimSwam as the 7th best prospect in the entire class. Jacob comes into college with times that are on the verge of making the NCAA Meet. Jacob is a true student of the sport who continuously finds ways to improve. Jacob will immediately impact our lineups and our relays at the highest levels. I look forward to watching him train alongside our current butterfly school record holders in Davide Harabagiu and Kaiser Neverman."

Luke Mychalowych
Bloomfield Hills, MI - Detroit Catholic Central High School

Coach Joyce says: "Luke is an athlete, plain and simple. He had a phenomenal senior year as he became the Michigan State Champion in the Boys 200y Freestyle. Luke should be able to come in and compete for relay opportunities in both medley and freestyle relays alike. Luke's strengths lie in his ability to rise up when the lights are brightest. He loves to compete."

Joe Polyak
Iowa City, IA - Iowa City High School

Coach Joyce says: "Joe is one of the best prospects in the entire country. In fact, based on his performances at the U.S. Olympic Trials he has been selected to represent the United States at the Junior Pan Pac's in Australia this August. An experience like that bodes well for racing the best of the best. Joe's ability to swim a variety of events at an NCAA Championship level is unique. We really look forward to his arrival on campus soon."

Joseph Tepper
Egg Harbor Township, NJ
Previous School: Tennessee

Coach Joyce says: "Joey will bring a wealth of experience to our team. Joey has swam at the NCAA Meet and comes to Minneapolis for his graduate studies after breaking the University of Tennessee 500y Freestyle record this past year. Joey has also been a U.S. National Team Member throughout his collegiate career. With his arrival, amongst others in this signing class, and current team members like Bar Soloveychik, we will have one of the best endurance freestyle groups in the Big Ten and NCAA."

Owen Von Weihe
Raleigh, NC - Raleigh Charter High School

Coach Joyce says: "Owen can flat out train and we want him to wear that like a badge of honor. Owen will join us with a great swimming background that we will look to build on. Upon his arrival we know he will enhance our IM / Endurance groups as he will be heavily relied upon in the 400 Individual Medley. He has won state titles in North Carolina and has swum at some of the biggest Junior Meets in the U.S. His addition is a big win for Minnesota."
