MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota tennis program has been recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as a 2024 Division I Women's ITA All-Academic team, announced by the ITA on Monday. In addition, six Gopher student-athletes were named ITA Scholar Athletes: Aiva Schmitz, Emma Belluomini, Mia Liepert, Niyathi Bhupatiraju, Sofia Pinto, and Zeyneb Sarioglan.
The Maroon & Gold squad finished the 2023-24 academic year with a 3.63 team cumulative GPA. The team's 3.72 GPA in the spring of 2024 marked the ninth consecutive semester that Gopher tennis achieved a term GPA of 3.50 or higher as a program, and the fourth out of the last five semesters that Minnesota notched a term GPA of 3.70 or higher.
The ITA recognizes programs with a team cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 or above as All-Academic, and student-athletes with a GPA of at least 3.5 as Scholar-Athletes. In 2024, 1,573 Division I women's student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, and 255 women's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.
