Gophers in 2nd Place After Day One of Mary Fossum Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The University of Minnesota women's golf team is in second place after completing 36-holes of the Mary Fossum Invitational. Minnesota moved up one place between rounds and posted a day one score of 287-287-574 (-2). Junior Isabella McCauley leads the Gophers individually tied for fifth place, while junior Ruby Chi set played her best round as a Golden Gopher shooting a 71(-1) in round two.
"Really proud of the girls, especially that second round," said head coach Matt Higgins. "It was pouring the last seven holes and they really stuck with it. Also really proud of Ruby who shot her career college low round. Top to bottom they played great!"
Ole Miss sits atop the leaderboard with a day-one score total of 563 (-13).
Notable:
I. McCauley is tied for fifth place with a day one score of 71-71-142 (-2). She notched six birdies and 27 pars across rounds to headline the day.
After 36-holes, sophomore Mariana Mesones is tied for seventh. Mesones carded 29 pars, the most of the 84 golfers in the field. She added four birdies to finish with one-under-par 143.
Freshman Reese McCauley nabbed six birdies and 22 pars on her way to a day-one score of 71-75-146 (+2).
Sophomore Sara Tomaszewski and junior Ruby Chi both sit tied for 19th place after each shooting a two-round score of 147 (+3). Tomaszewski added 25 pars and four birdies to her scorecard. Chi carded her career low round as a Gopher shooting a 71 (-1) in round two while adding 27 pars and three birdies on the day.
Looking Ahead:
The team is back in action tomorrow, Sept. 23, for round three of the Mary Fossum Invitational. Play will begin with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. CT.
