Gophers Take Third at Mary Fossum Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The University of Minnesota women's golf team took home third place after completing the final round of competition at the Mary Fossum Invitational. The Golden Gophers carded 187 pars during the event, the most in the 15-team field. The team shot a round three 298 (+10) and ended the event with an eight-over-par 872. Junior standout Isabella McCauley placed tied for seventh, grabbing her third straight top-ten finish.
"Another good weekend for the team," said head coach Matt Higgins. "Really excited to take a third-place finish in this field. The team is enjoying the process and it's showing its results. Also really happy for Ruby who played her best collegiate tournament, very well-deserved."
Ole Miss remained in the top spot after the final round and was crowned champion with a two-day score of 847 (-4).
Notable:
I. McCauley tallied three birdies and 11 pars in round three to solidify her top ten finish. She ended the event with a final score of 71-71-74-216 (E).
Freshman Reese McCauley moved two spots up the leaderboard to place tied for 13th place. She nabbed three birdies in round three and closed out the event with a score of 71-75-73-219 (+3).
Sophomore Mariana Mesones closed out the competition with a final score of 220 (+4). Mesones shot a round three 77 (+5) and tallied 41 pars, the highest in the individual field.
Junior Ruby Chi ended the competition with a three round score of 76-71-74-221 (+5), her best tournament score as a Golden Gopher. She grabbed two birdies and 12 pars in round three to close the event tied for 20th place.
Sophomore Sara Tomaszewski made two birdies and ten pars in round three to close the day with a 79 (+7). She finished with a score of 74-73-79-226 (+10).

The team will be back in action at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate from Oct. 4-6 in Highlands Ranch, Colo.
