Gophers Fall to Arizona State Sun Devils Friday Evening

TEMPE, ARIZ.- The Gopher swim and dive programs fall to Arizona State Friday evening. The No. 24 Gopher men fell 206-94 to the No.3 ASU men's squad. The No.23 Gopher women fell 191-109 to the No. 14 ASU women.Ā

It was a record-breaking evening for senior Bar Soloveychik as he broke his own 1000 free school record with a time of 8:52.82 earning first place in the event. His previous time was 8:52.95.Ā

Bar also placed first in the 500 free with a 4:19.31.

Senior Eliot Kennedy and sophomore Katie McCarthy went one and two respectively in the women's 1000 free. Kennedy finished with 9:34.79 and McCarthy posted a 9:43.11. Kennedy also placed second in the 500 free with 4:44.92.

Sophomore Anja Kaljevic came in first in the 200 free with a 1:47.05.Ā

In the diving well the women went one, two, three respectively on the one meter. Vivi Del Angel placed first with a 301.05, Elna Widerstrom placed second with a 298.05 and Addie Albrecht came in third with a 284.55.

On the three-meter, the Gophers also went one, two, three respectively. Del Angel placed first with 296.10, Widerstrom second with 279.68, and Kate LaMonica third with a 267.68.

On the men's side junior Drew Bennett came in first on the one meter with a score of 346.95.Ā

YuTong Wang placed first on the three- meters with a 417.00. Bennett placed second with 376.20.

The Gophers are back in action next Saturday, January 18th as they take on the University of Arizona Wildcats at Hillenbrand Aquatic Center in Tucson, Arizona.Ā
