MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota track and field program is set to host its first home meet of 2025 with the Jack Johnson Classic from Jan. 24-25. The indoor meet takes place at the University Fieldhouse in Minneapolis, Minn.

ABOUT THE JACK JOHNSON CLASSIC
For the Gophers, the fourth meet of the season begins at 3:15 p.m. CT with the pentathlon 60m hurdles. The next events in the pentathlon will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the previous event. Friday's action will also include the women's pole vault competition while Saturday's action begins at 10:30 a.m. with the men's shot put. The meet will run until approximately 4:20 p.m. on Saturday. The meet will not be streamed, but live results will be available through WayzataTiming.

LAST TIME OUT
University of Minnesota true freshman Isabelle Schmitz and redshirt sophomore Anthonett Nabwe highlighted the Gophers performances at the Graduate Classic last weekend. Nabwe won the women's weight throw while Schmitz put down the fastest mile time by a Gopher freshman and also was third in the 800m. Nabwe claimed the weight throw win with a toss of 21.30m (69-10 3/4). Schmitz's weekend began on Friday in the mile, posting a time of 4:43.43 to finish as the Graduate Classic runner-up. Then on Saturday the Hutchinson, Minn., native ran to a third-place finish in her 800m college debut in a time of 2:08.08. Both times for Schmitz land her just outside the program's all-time top 10 lists, but does give her the fastest time by a freshman in the 1600m in program history.

SCOTT WINS USATF U20 EVENT
University of Minnesota true freshman Sam Scott crossed the finish line first at the 2025 USATF U20 Cross Country Championships in Lubbock, Texas, on Jan. 11. The victory for the Minneapolis, Minn., native came on a day where his college teammate Nolan Sutter finished as the runner up and on the women's side Caitlyn Osanai finished third overall. For a full recap on the USATF win for Scott, click here.

EARLY SEASON RANKINGS
Although the USTFCCCA does not release its first team rankings until Jan. 28, the Gophers do have nine individual marks and/or times that sit inside the top 25 nationally on TFRRS.org. Minnesota's top ranked individual this season is Nabwe's No. 3 ranking in the weight throw along with her No. 13 ranking in the shot put (17.03m). Additionally, freshman Isabelle Schmitz reached the top 20 nationally for the first time for her 2:08.08 800m time she posted in Lincoln last weekend.

UP NEXT
Next weekend the Maroon and Gold will be split between the Meyo Invitational on the campus of Notre Dame and the Midwest Classic in Indianapolis from Jan. 31 until Feb. 1.
