The former Canadian Olympian went 9.875 on the balance beam
MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota rookie Ava Stewart was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Tuesday, the Big Ten announced.
The Bowmanville, Ontario native tallied a 9.875 on the balance beam in her first career meet on Saturday against Central Michigan. She took home an event title on beam, one of three Gophers to win titles on the day.
Stewart, who also competed in exhibitions on vault and beam on Saturday, took 19th in the Artistic Gymnastics Women's All-Around Final at the 2024 Paris Olympics last summer. She helped Team Canada place fifth overall, tying their highest ever finish at an Olympics.

The No. 24 Gophers (1-0, 0-0 B1G) travel to New Hampshire (1-0, 0-0 EAGL) on Saturday, Jan. 11 for their second meet of the season. The meet is set to begin at 6 p.m. ET/5 p.m. CT.
