Kocevar leads Minnesota on Day One of ITA Central Regional Championships

Norman, Okla. - The University of Minnesota tennis program competed in the first day of the 2025 ITA Central Regional Championships.
All six Golden Gophers competed Thursday, with four playing in the qualifying singles rounds and all participating in the main draw doubles.
Key Moments
Anali Kocevar led the way, advancing to the main draw with wins over Iowa State's Gabriella Kellner, 5-7, 6-3, 6-0, and UMKC's Amal Gati, 6-0, 6-4.
Anlin Xie defeated Iowa State's Gabriela da Silva, 6-0, 7-5, before falling to Missouri's Gian Octa, 3-6, 3-6.
Sofia Pinto beat Tulsa's Coal Valle, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, before losing to Nebraska's Natalia Trigosso, 2-6, 6-3, 1-6.
Yinong Ma dropped her first match to Natalia Koppova, 3-6, 3-6.
In doubles, Ma and Xie fell in the round of 64 to Oklahoma's Chloe Noel and Gloriana Nahum, 5-8. Kocevar and Mia Liepert defeated Missouri State's Bilur Gonlusen and Lucy Latham, 8-3, to advance to the round of 32. Pinto and Jeselle Ante followed with an 8-5 win over Tulsa's Tayla Wilmot and Isabella Basson to also advance to the round of 32.

Tomorrow marks the opening round of the main draw singles, with Minnesota's Anali Kocevar, Jeselle Ante and Mia Liepert set to compete for the Gophers. The pairs of Kocevar/Liepert and Ante/Pinto will also compete in the main draw doubles, beginning in the round of 32. The rest of the Gophers will play in the consolation rounds in both singles and doubles.
