VERO BEACH, Fla. - The University of Minnesota men's golf team finished in first place after the first two rounds of the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational on Sunday.
The Golden Gophers finished with an overall score of 25-under-par after 36 holes of golf. They shot 11-under-par (277) during the first round and 14-under-par (274) in the second round. Their second round score (274) is the team's lowest in 18 holes since the second round of the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate in Oct. 2019. The team's total score (551) is their lowest in 36 holes since the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in Oct. 2015. Four Gophers finished with scores under par on the day.Â
Notable Performances:Â
Sophomore Jack Crousore led the team with a score of 10-under-par, sitting in fourth place among all golfers on the day. He collected a score of 5-under-par (67) during the first and second rounds, tallying 11 birdies and just one bogey.
Sophomore Chun-Ta Wu finished his day in 15th place with a score of 6-under-par. He picked up an eagle on the 14th hole during the first round, helping him finish 2-under-par (70). His five birdies in the second round helped him shoot 4-under-par (68).
Senior Jack Wetzel shot 5-under-par throughout the first 36 holes. He collected six of his nine birdies during the first round, helping him finish 3-under-par (69).
Freshman Joe Honsa penciled a score of 4-under-par. He picked up 10 birdies over the 36 holes and dropped in an eagle during the second round on the 14th hole.Â
Freshman Torger Ohe registered a score of 3-over-par on the day. He totaled seven birdies, including four in the second round, to card a score of 1-over-par (73).
