Game 4 BU Win

Third-Period Heroics Lift Gophers Over Terriers

10/4/2025 5:48:00 PM | Women's Hockey

BOSTON, Mass. – A three-goal third period powered the No. 3 University of Minnesota women's hockey team to a 5-2 comeback victory over No. 13 Boston University on Saturday afternoon at Walter Brown Arena. The Gophers completed the weekend sweep and improved to 4-0-0 on the 2025-26 campaign.

Minnesota struck first midway through the opening frame. Off a neutral-zone turnover, Ava Lindsay found Abbey Murphy streaking down the left wing. Murphy fired a quick wrist shot, gathered her own rebound, and buried her 110th career goal to move into third all-time in Gopher history.

Boston University responded late in the first period when Sydney Healey capitalized on a defensive-zone turnover, firing from the high slot to tie the game at one. The Terriers took their first lead 9:22 into the second when Anezka Cabelova carried the puck from below the goal line and lifted it over Layla Hemp to make it 2-1 BU.

The Gophers regained momentum in the third. Murphy sparked the comeback with her second of the game, corralling a rebound off a Gracie Graham shot and finishing high blocker side to tie it 2-2.

Just minutes later, Nelli Laitinen gave Minnesota the lead with a point shot through traffic that found the back of the net at 10:23. The Gophers extended the margin only 21 seconds later when Tereza Plosova took a breakout feed from Molly Jordan, deked around a BU defender, and finished low on the short side for a 4-2 advantage.

Murphy capped off the win and completed her second hat trick of the season with an empty-net goal in the final 1:15 to seal the 5-2 victory.

Quotable
"A great comeback win tonight out in Boston," said head coach Brad Frost. "A tough place to play, especially being down 2-1 after two periods. I loved seeing the fight of our group and the character that they're playing with. Being able to get back on top of their game, stack shifts together, and create some momentum. I'm really proud of our group, the resiliency they showed, and looking forward to getting back home and back at it tomorrow."

Notable
- With her hat trick performance, Abbey Murphy tallied her 112th career goal, passing Grace Zumwinkle for third all-time in Gopher history.
- Murphy recorded her fourth career hat trick and second of the season.
- Nelli Laitinen scored in back-to-back games for the second time in her career.
- Ava Lindsay has registered nine assists through four games to start the season.
- Minnesota outshot BU 12–3 in the third period after entering the frame trailing 2–1.
