Wetzel Tops Gophers at Marquette Intercollegiate with Top Ten Finish

HARTFORD, Wis. - Senior Jack Wetzel led the University of Minnesota men's golf team with a score of 5-over-par (221) during the Marquette Intercollegiate at Erin Hills Golf Course.
The Golden Gophers finished in seventh place with an overall score of 37-over-par. They finished 3-over-par (291) on the day for the second straight round. Clemson placed first in the team competition with a score of 20-over-par. Individually, Tyler Kowack of San Diego State had the best score among all players with a mark of 2-under-par (214).
Notable Performances:
Wetzel's final total of 5-over-par (221) tied him for a career-best eighth place finish among the field. He shot 2-over-par during the third round with four birdies, including three on the back nine.
Freshman Joe Honsa collected a score of 1-under-par (71) on the day, leading the Gophers in the final round. He registered four birdies, adding to his total of six during the event.
Freshman Torger Ohe finished even (72) in the third round, ending the tournament with an overall score of 11-over-par (227). He picked up four birdies today for a total of 10.
Sophomores Jack Crousore and Chun-Ta Wu carded scores of 13-over-par (229) in the tournament. Crousore ended with a mark of 2-over-par (74) in the third round with three birdies. Wu shot 4-over-par (76) on the day with three birdies.
Senior Cormac Sharpe registered a score of 1-over-par (73) as an individual. He tallied two birdies, totaling nine over the three rounds.

After taking next weekend off, the Gophers return to competition Oct. 19-20 when they travel to Vero Beach, Fla., for the Quail Valley Collegiate, hosted by USF. The tournament will take place at the Quail Valley Golf Club.
