MINNEAPOLIS - Minnesota men's golf head coach Justin Smith announced two additions to the 2026-27 roster. Landon Houska (Fort Collins, Colo.) and Finlay Galloway (Auchtermuchty, Scotland) have signed scholarship agreements to join the Maroon and Gold.
"When you recruit prospects each and every year, you search for players that love Minnesota for our values and love the thought of competing in the maroon and gold," Smith said. "That's what we've been so proud of in our program is to have a full team that loves being at Minnesota and know they can develop as a person, student, and athlete. I know that Landon and Finlay both embrace this love of Minnesota, and they will prove to be an extremely strong class for the future of our program."
Houska competed at Fossil Ridge High School, where he played for head coach Jamie Menefee. He was a member of the school's 2022 state championship team. In 2024, he was a Colorado Junior PGA champion and AJGA champion in Victoria, Texas. Also, he became an inaugural team member for the USNDP Team Colorado. His four-year stroke average of 71.68 and single-season stroke average of 68.27 are the lowest in Fossil Ridge High School history. Houska intends to study finance in the Carlson School of Management.Â

"We are thrilled to welcome Landon to our program and know that he will have a tremendous impact on our team in all areas as a student athlete," Smith said. "From the start, Landon has shown that he can compete with the best players in the country, all while achieving 4.0 in the classroom. When we look to bring players into our program, they need to meet our standard on the course, in the classroom, and in the community. Landon certainly excels in all three of these areas, and we couldn't be more proud to have him in the maroon and gold."Â
Galloway will join the Golden Gophers after attending Bell Baxter High School. Early on, he won the Scottish Boys U16 Open Championship in 2022. 2025 was a successful year for Galloway, as he earned first-place honors in four events. He placed first individually in the Scottish Boys Amateur and Paul Lawrie Junior Jug. Collectively, he was a part of championship teams in the Boys Home Internationals with Scotland and the Scottish Men's Area Team Championships. Galloway plans to major in sports management in the College of Education and Human Development.
"Anytime you recruit an international prospect, you look for qualities that will fit your program and University well beyond golf," Smith said. "Finlay has shown that being a part of our program at Minnesota has been extremely important to him from the start. He has tremendous international golf experience competing for the Scottish national squad that will prove to be a huge addition to our team. We are so excited to see Finlay compete as a Gopher in all areas as a student athlete."
