MINNEAPOLIS – No. 10 Minnesota (2-1) guaranteed itself a top-eight finish at the National Duals Invitational presented by Paycom after splitting matches in Saturday's evening session in Tulsa, Okla.

The Golden Gophers fell to No. 6 Ohio State (3-0) in the quarterfinals, 29-6, but rallied past No. 16 Northern Iowa, 22-16, to earn a spot in the consolation semifinals at the BOK Center. As a result of the win over the Panthers (1-2), the Gophers have qualified for prize money as a result of the National Duals bracket structure.

Each team was guaranteed $20,000 for participating in the event, but a top-eight finish nets at least another $20,000. The fifth-place team will earn $50,000, while sixth place gets $40,000, seventh wins $25,000 and eighth place takes home $20,000.

Minnesota will face No. 17 Missouri at 10 a.m. Sunday with a second match to follow at noon against either No. 12 Illinois or a rematch with No. 11 Virginia Tech, whom Minnesota beat in Saturday's opening round, 19-17.

Against Northern Iowa Saturday night, the Gophers won the opening match as No. 8 Jore Volk knocked off No. 13 Trever Anderson, 5-2, at 125 pounds, but the Panthers won the next three matches to build an 11-3 lead. Charlie Millard got Minnesota back on track at 157 pounds behind a much-needed tech fall. Ranked 14th, Millard took care of RJ Weston, 19-4 (6:45) to cut the lead to 11-8.

No. 11 Andrew Sparks then brought evened things up at 11-11 with a 10-4 decision over Jack Thomsen at 165.

The Panthers got their final win of the dual when Ryder Downey, ranked fifth at 165, moved up to 174 to face No. 22 Ethan Riddle and produced a 16-0 tech fall at 1:32. However, top-ranked Max McEnelly countered with a tech fall of his own at 184 pounds, besting CJ Walrath, 21-6 at 5:12.

Tied at 16-16, No. 17 Gavin Nelson recorded a 4-1 overtime victory at 197 over Kalob Runyon in what turned out to be the dual-clinching match. For good measure, 15th-ranked heavyweight Koy Hopke upset No. 10 Wyatt Voelker, 9-5, to bring the final score to 22-16.

Earlier in the evening session, No. 6 Ohio State won eight of the 10 matches to send Minnesota to the consolation bracket.

The Golden Gophers got overtime wins at both 165 and 184. Sparks knocked off No. 12 Paddy Gallagher, 3-2, thanks to a second stall call on Gallagher in sudden victory. Meanwhile, at 184, McEnelly got the lone takedown of the match in the extra session to defeat No. 7 Dylan Fishback, 4-1.
