Gophers Set to Host Chicago State Tuesday Night

• The Golden Gopher men's basketball team has a quick turnaround playing Saturday and again on Tuesday, Nov. 18 when Chicago State comes to town. It marks the last B1G+ stream of the season. It's Chicago State's first appearance at Williams Arena since 2022.
• The Nov. 18 game marks the last home game of the month for the Gophers. The Gophers are on the road for the next three before opening Big Ten play on Dec. 3 when they host the Indiana Hoosiers. Minnesota is 3-1 at home in this early season with wins vs. Gardner-Webb, Alcorn State and Green Bay.
• Minnesota is coming off an overtime win against Green Bay on Saturday. Cade Tyson tallied 27 points, Jaylen Crocker-Johnson had his third double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Minnesota (3-1) prevailed with a 72-65 overtime win at Williams Arena. It was Minnesota's first overtime game since March of 2025 and its first overtime win since January of 2025. The Gophers held a slim 41-37 edge in rebounding, while outscoring Green Bay 34-28 in the paint. Minnesota was credited with 17 assists on 23 made field goals.
• Cade Tyson has scored double-digit points in all four games for the Gophers, including one with 30 points, two with 20-plus points and one with 17 points. That ranks second in the Big Ten in points per game behind Ohio State's Bruce Thornton. In the win against Green Bay, Tyson scored 27 points, 10 of which came from the charity stripe. His 23.8 ppg ranks 12th nationally.
• Jaylen Crocker-Johnson recorded his fourth-straight double-digit rebound game Saturday. He also had his third double-double of the season, the most so far among Big Ten players. Crocker-Johnson averages 13.3 rebounds per game, which ranks second in the B1G.
ALL-TIME SERIES
• Minnesota has hosted Chicago State four times in school history and holds a 4-0 record against the Cougars. Minnesota has played CSU in 2022, 2015, 2004 and 1989.
• Minnesota earned a 58-55 win in the two team's last meeting on Dec. 22, 2022. Dawson Garcia had 18 points and six rebounds to help the Gophers in the win.
• Niko Medved has faced the Cougars once in his career, dating back to the 2017-18 season when he was the head coach at Drake. In that game on Nov. 26, 2017, Drake improved to 4-1 off a 79-67 win over the Cougars.
ABOUT THE COUGARS
• Chicago State will be battle-tested in this early nonconference season. It has already faced DePaul, Saint Louis, Butler, and UIC this season, and is looking for its first win. Following the Minnesota game, the Cougars also face Iowa on Nov. 20. Chicago State was voted to finish sixth in the NEC preseason poll, which was conducted by NEC head coaches.
• The Cougars are led by Marcus Tankersley, who averages 17 points and 4.8 rebounds. He, along with Dakari Thomas, transferred to CSU from Alcorn State, where Cougar head coach Landon Bussie previously coached. Stephen Byard also averages double-digit points with 11.5 ppg/ Braelon Bush (9.8 ppg) and Doyel Cockrill (9.0 ppg) follow in scoring. Tankersley is the only player on the CSU roster to start in all four games.
