Minnesota Falls to Houston in Game Two of the Series

HOUSTON, TEXAS- The Minnesota Golden Gophers (1-1, 0-0 Big 10) fell 4-2 to the Houston Cougars (1-1, 0-0 Big 12) on Saturday night.
Drew Berkland led the offense with one hit (home run) and 2 RBIs. Jameson Martin, Jack Spanier, Parker Knoll, and Jake Elbeery also chipped in one hit.
Sophomore Kyle Remington got the start and took the loss. Remington threw 4.2 innings picking up four strikeouts. Will Whelan came in and threw 2.1 innings and recorded three strikeouts. Eli Sundquist closed out the game by throwing 1.0 innings striking out three.
How it Happened
- The Cougars struck first, scoring one in the bottom of the first.
- Spanier got things going in the third for the Gophers with a lead off walk then stole second. Drew Berkland then got the Gophers on the board with a two-run home run.
- The Cougars then took a 3-2 lead in the fifth after a two-run home run. They pushed one more across in the sixth to take a 4-2 lead.
- Minnesota loaded the bases in the eighth but could not score.
- The Gophers got two runners on in the ninth but stranded them both.

- Berkland hit his first home run of the season.
- Fitzgerald was hit by a pitch for the second time this season.
- Spanier picked up his second extra-base hit of the season.
