The ‘U’ Claims 800th Program Victory After 2-1 Takedown of St. Cloud State

2/15/2025 6:30:00 PM | Women's Hockey

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The third-ranked Golden Gopher women's hockey team bounced back from Friday's loss with a 2-1 defeat of No. 11 St. Cloud State on Saturday afternoon. Minnesota moves to a 23-9-1 (17-8-1 WCHA) record on the season, simultaneously snapping a four-game losing streak and clinching the 800th all-time win in program history.

The Huskies got on the board first for the second-straight game, as Emma Gentry tallied her second goal of the series 4:05 into the first period. The Gophers were unable to find the back of the net by the beginning of the first intermission, tying St. Cloud State with 14 shots.

Both teams went scoreless in the second period, again tying in shots on goal with nine apiece.

The Gophers' top-five scoring offense came back into form in the third period, scoring two unanswered goals en route to victory. Fifth-year forward Audrey Wethington scored her third goal of the season, assisted by Ava Lindsay, to bring the game even at the 4:33 mark. Exactly two minutes later, redshirt-junior forward Emma Conner tallied the game-winning goal, assisted by Sydney Morrow and Chloe Primerano

Freshman goaltender Hannah Clark recorded 29 saves and a .967 save percentage to secure her 19th victory in net this season. Clark moves to an overall record of 19-7-1.

Quotable:
"It was a big win," said head coach Brad Frost. "It was difficult, as we knew it would be, but coming back a goal-down in the third [period] to get those two [goals] was huge. I'm really proud of the way our team played in the last 20 [minutes] in particular, finding a way to dig in and get the job done."

Coach Frost on Reaching 800 Program Wins:
"Throughout the WCHA and the country, there's not many programs that have [800 wins], and we're super proud of everyone that's come before us, Coach [Laura] Halldorson leading the way, and all those players and people that were involved in it."

Notable:
- Minnesota became the first WCHA program to reach the 800 all-time win mark.
