Minnesota Finishes Tied for Eighth at Westbrook Invitational

PEORIA, Ariz.- The University of Minnesota women's golf team played the final round of the Westbrook Invitational today, finishing tied for eighth in the 14-team field. Minnesota shot 294 (+6) in the third round to close the event with a team score of 288-284-294-866 (+2).
Junior Ruby Chi shot the team's day three low round. She carded a 70 (-2), her career best with the Gophers, after adding a birdie and an eagle to her scorecard.
"I'm really happy for Ruby with her low round today," said head coach Matt Higgins. "A lot of hard work is paying off for her! Westbrook is one of our favorite events of the year, the community and host families treat us like royalty."
The University of Kansas won the team title with a final score of 825 (-39).
Notable:
Sophomore Mariana Mesones finished tied for 21st with a three-day score of 70-69-74-213 (-3). She grabbed three birdies in the final round to finish the event under par.
Chi finished tied for 38th place with a score of 73-75-70-218 (+2). This marks her best event during her time as a Golden Gopher, setting a new low round (70) and tournament score.
Junior Isabella McCauley also ended the event tied for 38th. She shot an eight-over-par 80 in round three to end with a score of 70-68-80-218 (+2).
Freshman Reese McCauley tallied four birdies in the final round to finish tied for 63rd place with a final score of 81-72-73-226 (+10).
Sara Tomaszewski closed out the event tied for 68th place and had a final score of 75-77-77-229 (+13).
Looking Ahead:
The Gophers will be back in action on March 10-11 at the Briar's Creek Golf Course in Johns Island S.C. for the Briar Creek Invitational.
