Gophers Back on the Road to Visit Huskers Saturday

STARTING FIVE
• The University of Minnesota men's basketball program is back on the road when it travels to Nebraska on Saturday, March 1. Game time is set for 1 p.m. and televised on Big Ten Network. The Golden Gophers lead the all-time series, 56-25, but are looking for their first win in Lincoln, Neb., since 2012. Minnesota is looking for its fifth Big Ten road win this year and sixth Quad 1 victory this season.
• The two teams split action in the 2023-24 campaign. However, the Cornhuskers earned a 73-55 win in their last meeting on February 25, 2024. Former Gopher Cam Christie led the team with 14 points, Dawson Garcia had 10 points and eight rebounds, and Parker Fox came off the bench to finish with eight points and a team-high nine rebounds. Huskers' Juwan Gary had 18 of his 22 points in the second half, while Brice Williams had 15 points and eight rebounds en route to the win.
• The Gophers are looking to return to the win column after a 75-63 loss to Northwestern on Tuesday. Dawson Garcia finished with 26 points and nine rebounds, but Northwestern jumped out to an early lead jumped out to an early lead and never trailed for the win. Frank Mitchell also finished in double-figures for Minnesota with 10 points, four rebounds, and a pair of blocked shots. Femi Odukale added seven points, seven boards, and team-highs of five assists and three blocks.
• Dawson Garcia has scored in double-figures 24 times this season, including a season-high 32 points at UCLA, 31 points versus Oregon, 30 points versus Oral Roberts, and 17 total games with 20-plus points.
• Minnesota finished the month of February with a 3-4 record. The Gophers fell to Washington (February 1), won at Penn State (February 4), lost at home vs. Illinois (February 8), won at both USC and UCLA (February 15 & February 18), but fell to Penn State and Northwestern (February 22 & February 25) to close out the month. • Nebraska is home for the second-straight game after dropping a 49-46 decision to Michigan on Monday. The Cornhuskers are 17-11 overall and 7-10 in league play.
• The Huskers have three that average double-digit points. One of the league leaders in points per game, Brice Williams leads the team with 19.6 ppg, followed by Juwan Gary with 13.0 and Connor Essegian with 10.5. Williams is shooting 46.9 from the field and holds a team-best 80 assists, while Essegian is the best from the arc at 39.0 percent. Berke Buyuktuncel averages a team-best 5.8 rebounds and 19 blocks. Sam Hoiberg comes off the bench and has a team-best 36 steals.
• As a team, Nebraska averages 74.6 points, while allowing 71.2 per game. The Huskers are shooting 45.4 percent as a team and 32.7 from three. They average 35 rebounds a game.
