Co-Player of the Month to 'U' junior
MINNEAPOLIS - University of Minnesota forward Jimmy Snuggerud was named a Hockey Commissioners Association (HCA) National Co-Player of the Month for January it was announced Thursday.
Â
The Chaska, Minn., product put together an impressive scoring run during the month of January with a point in all but one of nine outings, including seven multi-point performances. He totaled 11 goals and six assists for 17 points and was a plus-eight for the month. Following the second four-point game of his career in the Golden Gophers' sweep of No. 17/18 Wisconsin, Snuggerud took over as the NCAA's scoring leader with 41 points. He also set a new career-long, goal-scoring streak when he found the back of the net for the sixth-straight contest between Jan. 11-31.
Â
Snuggerud's final goal of the month was his 20th of the season, becoming one of three players in program history to score 20 or more goals in three-straight seasons to begin a college career. The previous two that accomplished the milestone are members of the M Club Hall of Fame, John Mayasich and Dick Dougherty, and did so during the 1953-54 campaign. The junior also was named Big Ten Conference First Star of the Week twice for his efforts in January.
Â
Snuggerud is the first Gopher to earn a national award from the HCA since February of 2023 when Logan Cooley was named Rookie of the Month.
