Gophers Sweep Doubleheader with Wins Over Colorado State and St. Thomas

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota tennis program hosted a doubleheader Saturday, defeating Colorado State 7-0 and St. Thomas 5-2 at Baseline Tennis Center. The Gophers improved to 6-2 on the season.

Minnesota finished the day 10-2 in singles and 5-1 in doubles.

Minnesota vs. Colorado State
The Maroon and Gold secured the doubles point with a strong overall effort. Aiva Schmitz and Yinong Ma won by default at the No. 3 spot, while the No. 2 pair, Jeselle Ante and Anlin Xie, clinched the point with a 6-4 victory over Viktoriya Zhadzinskaya and Logan Voeks. In the No. 1 matchup, Sofia Pinto and Arina Valitova fell to Victoria Erechtchenko and Sarah Weekley.

Minnesota swept all six singles matches to defeat the Rams 7-0. Mia Lepert opened with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Mariya Dobreva at the No. 4 spot. Aiva Schmitz secured the overall win by defeating Victoria Erechtchenko 6-0, 6-4 at No. 1. Anali Kocevar followed with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Sarah Weekley at No. 2, while Arina Valitova won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3. Anlin Xie closed out the sweep with a 6-0, 7-6 (8-6) win over Logan Voeks at No. 5. Minnesota also earned a point at No. 6 by default.

Minnesota vs. St. Thomas
The Gophers started strong, clinching the doubles point with a sweep. No. 3 pair Aiva Schmitz and Yinong Ma secured the first win, defeating St. Thomas' Caroline Lindahl and Ingrid Forsberg 6-1. At No. 1 doubles, Mia Liepert and Anali Kocevar sealed the overall point with a 6-2 victory over Marthe Degeorges and Anna Sidorenko. Anlin Xie and Jeselle Ante completed the sweep with a 6-3 win over Shrichandrakala Tentu and Lily Olson.

In singles, Minnesota won three straight matches to secure a 4-2 victory. No. 3 Mia Liepert opened with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Anna Sidorenko, followed by No. 4 Jeselle Ante defeating Jannah ElNemr by the same score. Yinong Ma clinched the overall victory at No. 6 with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Lily Olson. Shrichandrakala Tentu topped Deniz Turan 6-3, 7-5 at No. 5, while No. 2 Arina Valitova closed the match with a hard-fought 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 tiebreaker victory.
